Mandatory Credit: Steven Bisig-Imagn Images Detroit Tigers All-Star outfielder Riley Greene left Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians early after being hit by a pitch.
Greene fell to the ground after taking a Tanner Bibee pitch off his lower right leg in the second inning. Greene stayed in the game and scored the game's first run on a double by Spencer Torkelson.
But when the Tigers took the field in the top of the third, rookie Ben Malgeri assumed Greene's spot in left field.
The Tigers later said Greene was experiencing right hamstring tightness, and manager A.J. Hinch has already ruled out playing Greene on Wednesday.
"Anytime you take a guy like Riley out, there's a level of concern, but I have no idea," Hinch told reporters after Detroit's 6-4 win. "I think we're going to get up tomorrow, we'll get him tested and we'll see. Hamstring stuff, or soft-tissue, lower-extremity stuff, the next day is really the big key.
"When the lineup comes out, he's not going to be in it. I'm not even going to consider it. But we'll see. Hopefully it's a day-to-day thing, and if not, then we'll have a different report."
Greene, who earned his third consecutive All-Star Game nod in July, has played in 117 of the Tigers' 119 games this season. He owns a .273/.365/.450 slash line with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs.
